Next online Open Practice Monday 22 May 6.30-7pm
Hello I hope all is well. I wonder if you’ve noticed an up swing in your mind or a scaling up of thoughts and ‘doings’ as we are now fully sprung in spring.
Last month I posted about kestrels; the art of staying still and creating space in the face of uncontrollable forces. This month I’m considering another bird that stays still, the heron. A grey heron often graces the river where I walk, and sometimes flies over in unmistakeable pterodactyl style. Accustomed to footfall, this one stays fishing as people pass, a shaggy, serene, poised on one leg, shapeshifter.
The heron features in mythology and folklore around the world. At the threshold between worlds, as a messenger of deities and gods. A magnificent light footed water stepper, such long elegant legs, such focused patience. I think of willow trees, rivers, estuaries, grace of movement between earth, air and water. The ultimate shapeshifter and yet so much so simply heron. How can we shift gracefully between all the areas of our lives whilst remaining true to ourselves. Can we find the skills to focus patiently when we need to, and also move on with grace when we have to accept things we may or may not like.
So, to Open Practice, A monthly 30 minute online practice. I can’t promise complete heron-like grace and focused serenity in half an hour, but I can promise a moment to simply be and practice focus and awareness!
This month’s Open Practice is Monday 22 May 6.30 – 7pm
If you’d like to come please let me know and I’ll send you a Zoom link and details. Please do also invite anyone else who might like to try a meditation practice. No assumption, no judging, no previous experience required, and no need to turn your camera on if you’d rather not. Pay what you can. Suggested donation: £2.
The sessions have a loose focus (often related to themes that reoccur in my individual practice and when I’m working with others). The aim is to shift our awareness into the present moment and create (even if only a tiny sliver) a chance to notice ourselves between the many distractions of having a life, and all the stuff we have going on.
If you know anyone who would like to delve deeper into mindfulness and extend their skills then I am running 8 week mindfulness courses throughout this year. New course dates are posted on LinkedIn and here on my website as they are available.
I also run bespoke courses, one to one and small group sessions.
I have spaces for one to one and bespoke sessions, working outdoors, indoors, or online, focused on reflective practices and mindfulness techniques as well as Outside Thought reflection and facilitation sessions.
Thank you for reading
Wishing you well
